Summerlin Life and Health Insurance Company (“Summerlin”) is
Hawaii's newest group health insurance company. Summerlin was founded
and licensed as a domestic Life and Health Insurance Company in Nevada
in 2003, Hawaii in 2004 and Arizona in 2005. Summerlin is headquartered
in Las Vegas, Nevada with locally based service centers in Honolulu,
Hawaii and Phoenix, Arizona. Summerlin offers a full line of fully
insured group health insurance products to small and large size
employers, trust funds and other plan sponsors. The benefit plans
offered by Summerlin are extensive and its pharmacy and provider
networks are comprehensive with more than 9,000 providers in Arizona,
4,000 providers in Nevada and 4,200 providers in Hawaii. National
Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) networks make coverage seamless.
On August 2, 2004, Summerlin announced that it had been approved by the
Insurance Commissioner and Director of Labor to provide group health in
the State of Hawaii. The three new health insurance products designed to
provide exceptional value to the people of Hawaii are called Summerlin
Easy Hawaii, and it consists of a “$15 Office” co-pay plan, an “All
20 percent” coinsurance plan, and a “PPO Plan”. In 2005, the “90/10 PPO”
coinsurance plan was added. These plans offer open and direct access to
providers, giving members the freedom to go directly to any physician,
hospital or health care professional for covered services. No referral
is required and all four plans feature excellent coverage for routine
preventive care, specialty care, hospitalization, surgery, diagnostic
testing and emergency care. The new products include prescription drug
coverage; only a small number of services require preauthorization or
notification. Dental and vision riders are available as options.
